The songs in this concept album pose more questions than answers. (It was almost titled “The Book of Questions” in homage to Neruda’s book of short poems.)
A patriotic impulse gave rise to these original songs and choice of covers. In the long run, democracy and human rights will (probably!) survive in our country. In the short term, it’s not looking good, with so many powerful figures trying to profit from making things worse. Solutions sometimes seem a long way off. Maybe questions – real questions that invite conversation, connection, and listening – can be a place to start. Maybe music can play a role too. The future is still ours to write.

Scott Palermo

I am self-taught and bring to my music the rich folk tradition of the sixties and seventies. I take that flavor, exemplified by influences such as John Prine, Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, and John Denver; and blend it with more contemporary folk artists and my own original compositions to create a program that is musical, historical, and pleasing to audiences of all ages. – Scott Palermo

The moral compass is STILL in our midst. And with your help, we are going to shine a little bit more light on it.
Spook is the author of “Looking For America” – a weekly Substack series of Tales from the Road, Times with Pete Seeger, song lyrics, stories behind the songs, and other surprising and crazy stuff.
